Tennessee & Mississippi

A trip full of Rock ‘n’ Roll and Blues history!

I spent 3 nights in Memphis and have seen Graceland, the Beale Street and the famous Sun Studios where Elvis Presley and other world famous artists like Johnny Cash, B.B. King and Jerry Lee Lewis recorded their songs.

After Memphis I drove south through the State of Mississippi on the Route 61 (Also known as Blues Highway).
In Clarksdale I had lunch in the Ground Zero Blues Club owned by Morgan Freeman, spent some time in the very interesting Delta Blues Museum and took a picture from the junction of US 61/ US 49 where Blues Legend Robert Johnson supposedly sold his soul to the Devil in exchange to the blues for which he became famous.

Later I drove alongside the Mississippi River to the south through lovely towns in the Delta like Greenville (The Heart & Soul of the Delta), Vicksburg (Where Coca Cola was bottled for the first time in 1894) and Natchez (which is named for the Natchez tribe of Native Americans). Next longer stay will be New Orleans in Louisiana…

Overview of the route:

  • Memphis
  • Clarksdale
  • Greenville
  • Vicksburg
